Twitter for Traffic?

How can we use Twitter to get out of traffic jams more quickly? Or avoid them altogether?

Would it be possible to tweet from your phone when traffic slows down and look at real time updates from people in the same area? It would be helpful to know if you should get off the interstate and take an alternate route or sit tight for five minutes because it will clear.
